Step 2 and Then Some

Don’t worry.  There will be no tantrums here today.  Or at-least none so far.  Just a little info on my journey to blog stardom.  🙂

So, I told you the other day that I finally purchased my domain (you can click it right now but there’s not much there.

Well the next step was web hosting.  I got some great recommendations and decided to go with Surpass Hosting.  You really can’t beat their price of $6/month.  Don’t worry, I learned from FireMom over at StopDrop&Blog that she has been using Surpass for a while now and has had no problems.  She also has had no problems with the hosting and WordPress.  If you decide to go check them out be sure to visit  There is a host called Surpass and I have not input on their service.

As I’ve probably told you before, I know nothing about CSS or websites so this has been a bit of a challenge.  I know I can learn it all.  It may take 100 years but I will persevere.

On to the Then Some:

My first step after purchasing web hosting was to point my domain to the host.  This is done by redirecting your nameservers.  I was able to do this easily using the instructions given by my domain registrar, GoDaddy.

Next I wanted to install the WordPress blog software. To be honest it was pretty easy as well.  Now that that taken care of I’m a little lost.

Some tools that I plan to utilize in the learning process are OhMyStinkinHeck’s   tutorials titled WordPress Wednesdays and my friend Pam.  Get ready Pam the phone calls and emails are getting ready to commence.

At this point, any and all advice and/or direction would be greatly appreciated and just to give you a little something entertaining after this edition of Dumb Butt Meets Techie I have posted Lil’ Bum’s b-day pics up over on flickr.

Step One

So, I feel like I’ve been hiding out the last couple of days.  I am feeling bitter and b*tchy lately.  I am trying to spare you guys the pity party.  So far I am making it but be prepared.  You may come here one day in the not so distant future and find and explosion of my feelings.  Just warning.

I can’t believe I finally did it.  You don’t know how many times I have entered the information and then backed out.  This is a big step for me.

meet the future (don’t click there’s nothing there yet)

The rest of the weekend is going to be pretty busy with family coming and a Princess party and all so I won’t be purchasing any web hosting until next week.  Tonight will find me decorating a Cinderella and castle cake and visiting incoming family and tomorrow will have me running my a*s off decorating and such.

I’ll try to be prompt on the pictures.  I hope everyone has a great weekend.

She really likes me!

I never realized before blogging that I was missing a very important thing in my life……the support and interaction of friends.  Don’t get me wrong, I have some wonderful friends, the thing is I just lost contact.   It is so easy to get consumed in your family life that you push your friendships to the side.  My friendship with Melissa is one such neglected friendship.  It hurts me deep down in my heart that I don’t talk to and see her much anymore.  We have shared our deepest, darkest secrets with one another.  We  have had some great times together.  It is just so easy to put off calling or visiting.  It is so easy to put friendships on the bottom of the priority list when your juggling so many jobs:  wife, mother, employee etc.  Although it is understandable to lose touch it is in no way healthy.

Pam is right, we need each other.  We need interaction.  I never imagined the friends that I would make while blogging.  They have been so good for my soul.  Just with a few key strokes I am interacting and sharing, laughing  and crying.

With all that said, the whole reason for my post is to tell you that I am blown away.  I received my very first award today from my dear friend MapperSnapper.  It is has definitely been a bright spot in my day and she has been a bright spot in my heart.

Check it out!

Definitely go and check out the other bloggers she bestowed this awesome award to.

Hey, maybe Melissa should get a blog.  Apparently I am a whole lot better at keeping in touch through cyberspace than through telephone.   Think about it girl 🙂

Search Engine Visits

I still don’t get a great deal of traffic, maybe an average of 25 hits a day, but my search engine hits are increasing.  Most of the searches are pretty harmless but a few make me cringe

From today:

cute kids in a barn photos– AWWWWW

big bums – I picture a large greasy guy sitting at a computer still living with mom

carpet clean – I could definitely use some tips on this subject

baby bum swollen – I hope they took that baby to the doctor

airman twomey– Yeah CJ

things to put in your bum – I picture teenagers with too much free time

So to anyone stumbling upon this website who is not interested in seeing pictures of cute babies and cute booger eating little girls, and hearing the stories of mommyhood and family life you probably need to leave.  We are not real big on putting things in our bums (unless medically necessary) and sharing photos of our big bums here at the Barn Bum residence.

What is your strangest search engine hit?

What’s in a name?

At times I think I’m jumping the gun, I mean I only started this in October, but my free blog account leaves me very limited.  I am not able to add buttons, banners, ads, etc.  I am ready for a change.

Taking this step is a little intimidating.  I don’t know a thing about code, or webpages, or good writing.  So my first task at hand is to gather up some cojones and get started.

I need to buy a domain name.  Do I change it all around or go with “thebarnbums”?

When I knew I wanted to blog the namewas my biggest hold up.  I couldn’t think of one single catchy title.  So finally in an act of desperation I went with a play on words which also references our small farming operation.  I am not exactly thrilled with the name but it has quickly became a part of me and my blogging identity.  So do you think I should keep it?  Did you immediately feel at one with your blog’s name and feel that it accurately represented you?  Did you have to think long and hard to come up with it?

Tell me what you think.  An inquiring mind wants to know.
